How an electrical service upgrade works in NYC
Most service upgrades follow the same five steps. We handle the permits and the Con Edison coordination, so you deal with one contractor from start to finish.
- STEP 01
Site survey & load calculation
We look at your existing service and panel and calculate the power you need now and for planned HVAC, cooking, and EV charging.
- STEP 02
DOB electrical permit
We file the electrical permit with the NYC Department of Buildings under our license, #4876.
- STEP 03
Con Edison application
We submit the service request to Con Edison and coordinate the meter and service work with them.
- STEP 04
Installation
New service equipment, meter, and panel, installed clean, organized, and labeled.
- STEP 05
Inspection & energize
The DOB inspects the work, and Con Edison connects your new service.

“Mike was exceptional! Highly recommend. Early, knowledgeable, professional, fast and honest. Would recommend to anyone looking for high quality service at a fair honest price.”
“Mike was honest and reminded me about fixtures having to be UL listed for my building which literally delayed me hiring him. Then George comes on the appointment date and does a great job. He was courteous, friendly and didn't leave a mess. Price was the best of 3 bids I received. All around satisfaction.”
“NGM electric has been wonderful to work with. On time and detail oriented. Michael and Nick are amazing to work with.”
“Great service, highly recommend!”

NGM Electric was founded in New York City in 2011 as a lighting renovation company, and our early lighting work earned multiple Con Edison awards.
In 2018 we expanded into full-service electrical work. Today our licensed and insured team handles everything from service calls to building-wide service upgrades, EV charging and lighting retrofits, and has worked with industry partners including Tesla, Con Edison and NYSERDA.

Electrical work in occupied, high-end and landmark buildings
Most of our work happens in buildings where people live and work: prewar co-ops, condo towers, brownstones and active retail. We coordinate with boards, managing agents and architects, protect work areas, and leave finished spaces clean.
We also handle the paperwork that comes with NYC electrical work: DOB permits and inspections, Con Edison service applications, and certificates of insurance for building management.
