Permits, landmarks, and building rules

Every electrical job in the city needs a DOB permit filed by a licensed electrician. Much of Park Slope is in a historic district, so exterior changes, like a new meter location or facade lighting, may need Landmarks Preservation Commission approval as well.

  • DOB electrical permit and final inspection
  • Separate meters and panels for each apartment
  • Con Edison coordination for service upgrades
  • Exterior work planned with landmark rules in mind

FAQ

Park Slope electrical questions

I'm converting my house back to a single-family home. What changes electrically?

Often the separate apartment meters are combined into one larger service with a new main panel. We can plan the new layout, file the permits, and coordinate the Con Edison work.

Should I rewire before or during my renovation?

During, if you can. Open walls make rewiring faster, cleaner, and less expensive.

Do I need a service upgrade for a heat pump?

Many older houses do, especially with 60 or 100 amp service. We can calculate your load and tell you what is needed.

What does a service call cost?

Service calls are $295 for the first hour of diagnosis or repair and $110 for each additional hour. Emergency service is $450 for the first hour.
